When the ceremony started, Lavigne was onstage to introduce rapper AP Dhillon, who was performing for the first time at the Junos. She was in the middle of her introduction when she said, “I’m introducing an artist who’s exploded on the global music scene with the new wave of R&B, hip hop, and pop records fused…”

The woman ran past security and jumped on stage without a top, wearing only pink pants and a bandana that matched. People who saw her said she was dressed in pastries and had writing on her body that said “save the green belt” and “land back.” Lavigne, however, did not talk to the woman and stuck to her plan.

The protester then circled the singer and put her arms out. Lavigne looked at her and said, “Get the f* off. “Get the f* out, you b**ch!” By that time, security was on stage and helped the woman leave. The singer then came back to start the show.

After the awards, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS) put out a statement about what happened. It said, “We do everything we can to keep our programme from being interrupted, but there are always risks with live events and broadcasts.”

“We expect that tonight’s brief delay will not detract from the achievements of this year’s performers, victors, and nominees.” At the ceremony, Lavigne was presented with the TikTok Juno Audience Choice Award. She made a jest about the incident during her acceptance speech. “Don’t attempt anything this time, or I’ll become a Canadian and f* a bch,” or “I’ll become a Canadian and f* a bch.”
