Suspect in killings of 4 University of Idaho students arrested

A person of interest was arrested in connection to the murders of four University of Idaho students

Authorities have arrested a person in connection with the stabbing deaths of four students at the University of Idaho.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to NBCNews that a person of interest in the confounding cold case was arrested over 2,500 miles away in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

The suspect appeared before a Monroe County judge at 8.30am on Friday morning, the sources said.

A man in his mid 20s was taken into custody by local police and the FBI at 3 a.m. in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the law enforcement source said.

The suspect is a college student but does not attend the University of Idaho, the source added. He appeared in court this morning.

Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21, were stabbed to death in the early morning hours in a rental home just yards from campus.
